May rubber output up 19.7%
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia produced 65,254 tonnes of natural rubber (NR) in May this year, an increase of 19.7% or 10,724 tonnes from the previous month.
Year-on-year, production rose 9.2% or 5,521 tonnes, the Statistics Department said in its latest rubber statistics summary released today.
It said the estate sector contributed only 5.2% to total production, while the share from the smallholding sector amounted to 94.8%. (more)
Rise in spot rubber prices
On Thursday (22 July 2010), the spot rubber prices rose due to supply concerns but the prices failed to reach the expected levels as futures failed to hold on to early gains on the National Multi commodity Exchange. Sheet rubber increased to Rs 181 from Rs 180 per kg, while the trend was mixed as ungraded and latex ended flat. (more)
