India’s natural rubber output rises by 5pc in June
MUMBAI, July 4 (Commodity Online): India’s natural rubber output in June rose 5 per cent from a year earlier as farmers tapped more latex because of high prices and a rise in tapping area, according to sate run Rubber board. Consumption grew to 75,000 mt from 74,220 mt while import down by 54 per cent to 9,255 mt from 20,258 mt a year ago.
India’s synthetic rubber output in 2009-10 (Apr-Mar) rose 10.3 per cent year on year to 106,743 mt from 96,739 mt, according to data from the Rubber Board. Demand for synthetic rubber rose 18.7 per cent during the period to 347,710 mt from 292,950 mt, it said. Synthetic rubber imports rose 31 per cent on year to 250,210 mt from 190,630 mt. Rise in demand from automobile tyre manufacturers led to higher demand for synthetic rubber. (more)
Thai Rubber, Sugar Output to Gain on Planting, Apichart Says
July 7 (Bloomberg) — Damage from drought to Thai sugar, rubber and rice production will probably be limited as an increase in planting more than offsets losses from parched trees and plants, according to the Office of Agricultural Economics.
Drought lowered latex output and trees in some areas are still young, generating low yields,” Apichart said, referring to the sap. The area planted to rubber has increased 12 percent to 12.1 million rai (4.8 million acres), Apichart said. (more)
Rubber supply deficit projected to be higher in India
MUMBAI (Commodity Online): Rubber supply deficit in India is estimated to be higher in 2010-11 fiscal due to the lower production prospect and increasing demand from the tyre industry.
Accoriding to the Automotive Tyre Manufacturers Association (ATMA), country’s apex body of leading tyre companies, the deficit is likely to be in the range of 176,000 million tons which is much higher that 85000 million tons deficit estimated by the India Rubber Board. (more)
